Cisco sues Apple over iPhone

In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday, Cisco asked the courts to forbid Apple to use the term "iPhone". Cisco has owned the trademark to iPhone since 2000, after they acquired Linksys, the actual trademark for the iPhone is within the Linkysys product line. Linksys iPhone was designed as a hand held device to use over a VOIP system, the lawsuit to which the main reason is that apples iphone is confusing to buyers of Cisco's iphone.

If the lawsuit goes to court, most likely cisco will win because they have held the tradmark for quite some time, either way it's goin to cost them both millions of dollars over this trademark battle. You would think apple would have know this would happen or at least make sure their was not a trademark on iPhone before doing what they did. On the other hand the huge publicity that the iphone lawsuit has caused has done plenty for the promotion of both the Apple iPhone and Cisco iPhone. The viral effect of the iphone lawsuit news has been huge, and the longer it lasts, seemingly the better for both companies involved.
